Overview

After your vehicle is delivered, there may be additional steps to complete your titling and registration. You’ll receive a temporary tag to use your vehicle while permanent registration processes, and some states require post-delivery verification forms where you take your vehicle to an approved inspector. Once everything is submitted, you’ll track the arrival of your permanent plates and title (if financing, the title is sent to your lender).

How It Works

After delivery, Ekho will provide a temporary tag so you can use your vehicle while your titling and registration is processed by the state. If your state requires post-delivery verification, you’ll download forms, take your vehicle to an approved verifier, upload the completed forms for review, then mail the originals back to Ekho. Once all documents are submitted, Ekho submits everything to your state’s DMV. The DMV processes your registration and mails permanent plates to you, and the title (if financing, sent to your lender; if paying cash, mailed to you).

Complete Post-Delivery Verification

If your state requires it, complete verification forms after receiving your vehicle. This involves taking your vehicle to an approved inspector who verifies the VIN and vehicle details.

When This Applies

You’ll know this applies if you see “Verification forms” in your document requirements or receive an email notification after delivery. Some states require physical vehicle inspection before completing registration. What’s Required:
  • Download state-specific verification forms
  • Take your vehicle to an approved verifier (DMV, licensed dealer, or licensed inspector)
  • Verifier inspects vehicle and completes official form
  • Upload completed forms for Ekho team review
  • Ship original forms back to Ekho using prepaid label
Timeline:
  • Must be completed as soon as possible; in many cases, Ekho is unable to start the titling and registration process with your state’s DMV until these are received
  • Recommended: Complete within 7 days to avoid registration delays. Note, failure to return your verification forms may result in expired temporary tags.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Depending on your state and vehicle type, you will either receive your tag via the mail (most common) or online in your Buyer Portal. Check your email for a message from Ekho regarding your temporary tag — it will include either a PDF attachment or a shipping label tracking number for your physical tags. In the case you are eligible to receive your tags digitally, you can also access it anytime in your Buyer Portal by clicking My Records and expanding the Your temporary tag section.
Temporary tags are typically valid for 30-90 days, depending on your state. The exact expiration date is shown on the tag itself. Your permanent plates should arrive before expiration, but contact Ekho if your tag is about to expire.
Contact Ekho support immediately. Do not drive with an expired tag. Ekho can coordinate with the DMV to issue a temporary tag extension if your state allows it. Extensions are typically 30-60 days.
Temporary tags are from the state where the seller of the vehicle resides, which is not always the same as the registration state. This is normal and your temporary tag is valid for use while your permanent registration is processed in your state.
Only if your state requires it. You’ll see “Verification forms” in your document requirements or receive an email notification after delivery if this applies to you. Not all states require post-delivery verification.
Use the “View approved locations” section on the verification forms page for links to:
  • DMV office locators
  • Licensed dealer directories
  • Independent inspector lists
Most licensed vehicle dealers are authorized verifiers. Contact Ekho support for recommendations in your area.
Yes! This is exactly what your temporary tag is for - allowing you to legally operate your vehicle for necessary registration tasks like getting verification forms completed.
Read the rejection reason carefully. Common issues include blurry images, missing verifier stamps, or incomplete information. Fix the issue (retake photo or return to verifier) and re-upload. Contact support if you need clarification.
You must mail the original physical forms with real stamps and signatures. The upload is for Ekho’s review, but DMV requires the actual originals. Keep photo copies for your records before mailing.
Typically 6-10 weeks after vehicle delivery. DMV processing takes 4-8 weeks, then plates are mailed and arrive 7-14 days later.
Allow 2-3 weeks after the DMV issues them. Check your portal for the issue date and verify your mailing address is correct. Contact Ekho support if not received after 3 weeks - they can verify with DMV and request replacements if needed.
Titles are processed separately from plates, typically 8-12 weeks after delivery. If you’re financing, the title is sent to your lender (they hold it until your loan is paid off). If paying cash, it’s mailed directly to you.
Contact Ekho support immediately to update your address for plate delivery. You may need to update your address with the DMV separately as well.
Ekho cannot expedite state DMV processing - that’s controlled by your state. However, Ekho can help ensure all documents are submitted correctly and promptly, which helps avoid delays.
You must complete verification within 90 days of delivery. If you don’t, your registration cannot be processed and will be delayed. Complete it as soon as possible - recommended within 7 days to avoid delays.
