After uploading your documents, you’ll sign your titling and registration forms. Ekho generates pre-filled state-specific forms using your information, which you then sign using at least one of four methods: electronic signature (e-sign), remote signing, remote online notarization (RON), and physical wet signature. The signing method is determined by your state’s requirements and the specific documents you need to complete.
Ekho automatically determines which signing method you’ll use based on your state’s DMV requirements. You’ll see the documents you need to sign and instructions for your specific workflow:
For e-signatures, you’ll sign online in a secure portal.
For remote signing, you’ll schedule a session with an Ekho team member who will guide you through the process to complete signatures remotely.
For remote online notarization (RON), you’ll complete a video call with a licensed notary who verifies your identity and witnesses your signatures.
For physical signatures, you’ll download, print, sign, and mail forms back to Ekho with a prepaid shipping label. Please note, this may also involve getting your paperwork notarized in person.
In some cases, your order may require a combination of signing methods. For example, some of your forms may be eligible for e-signature while others require a remote signing session or physical wet signature. In states that support Remote Online Notarization (RON), your order may include a RON session for documents that require notarization alongside a physical signing packet for the remaining forms. When this happens, Ekho walks you through each step in order—you complete e-signatures and RON sessions first, then move on to remote signing or physical signatures for the remaining documents. Each step unlocks after the previous one is finished, so you always know what to do next.
E-signature is available when your state’s DMV accepts electronic signatures for titling and registration documents and notarization isn’t required. This is the fastest and most common signing method. What You’ll Sign:
Power of Attorney for Title and Registration
Application for Certificate of Title
Vehicle Registration Application

Why can't I electronically sign all my documents?
The signing method is determined by your state’s DMV requirements. Some states require wet signatures or notarization for certain titling and registration documents, which cannot be completed through simple e-signature. When wet signatures are required without notarization, we use remote signing sessions. When notarization is required and your state supports Remote Online Notarization (RON), you’ll complete a video session with a licensed notary who verifies your identity and witnesses your signatures. If your state does not support RON, you’ll sign physically in front of an in-person notary. If your order has a mix of form types, you’ll complete e-signatures and any RON sessions first, then move on to remote signing or physical signatures for the remaining forms.
How long does a RON session take?
Typically 5-10 minutes. The identity verification step takes 1-2 minutes, and the video call with the notary takes 3-5 minutes depending on the number of documents.
What if my RON session fails or I lose connection?
If you experience technical issues during the RON session, you can try again. If the session cannot be completed, the notarized forms are converted to physical wet signatures and mailed to you for in-person signing with a notary. Any e-sign forms in your order remain electronic. Contact Ekho support if you need assistance.
What's the difference between RON and remote signing?
Remote signing is a live session with an Ekho team member where you sign documents electronically while they observe. RON is a video call with a licensed notary who officially notarizes your documents. RON is required when your state mandates notarization but allows it to be done remotely.
What if I make a mistake while signing?
For e-signatures, click on a signed field again to redo your signature before completing the document set.
For remote signing, a team member will guide you through the session and can ensure all documents are completed correctly.
For physical signatures, if you make an error before mailing, print fresh forms and restart. If already mailed, contact Ekho support.
How long does e-signing take?
Typically 10-15 minutes to review and sign all documents. You can pause and resume if needed - progress is saved automatically.
What if my signing session times out?
E-signature sessions time out after 60 minutes of inactivity. Your progress is saved - just return to the page and click “Review Documents” again to resume where you left off.
Can I use my phone or tablet for e-signing?
Yes! The e-signature interface works on mobile devices. You can type, draw, or upload your signature. Drawing signatures is often easier on touch screens.
What if I can't make my scheduled remote signing session?
Reschedule as soon as possible through the Buyer Portal. Rescheduling is free with 24+ hours notice. If you miss your session, you’ll need to schedule a new one.
Do I need a printer for physical signatures?
Yes, or access to one. If you don’t have a printer, you can print at UPS Store, FedEx Office, public libraries, or use a friend’s or employer’s printer.
Where can I find a notary for physical signatures?
UPS Stores have notaries on staff (recommended since you’ll ship there anyway). Banks often provide free notary services for customers. Courthouses, real estate offices, and independent notaries are also options. Search online for “notary public near me.”
What do I need to bring with me to a notary?
Notaries need to verify your identity before witnessing your signature. Bring:
Your government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, or passport)
All forms that require notarization (unsigned - you’ll sign in front of the notary)
Any forms you’ve already signed that don’t require notarization (for your complete packet)
The notary will check your ID, watch you sign the forms requiring notarization, then complete their certificate and apply their seal.
How much does notarization cost?
Typically $5-15 per signature at UPS Stores and independent notaries. Banks may offer free notary services for account holders.
What if I forget to get something notarized before mailing?
Ekho will review your forms and notify you if notarization is missing. You’ll need to complete notarization on fresh forms and mail them back, which delays processing by 1-2 weeks.
Can I track my physical signature package?
Yes! Use the tracking number on your prepaid UPS label. You can track at ups.com or through the Ekho portal, which displays your package status automatically.
What if my package gets lost in the mail?
Contact Ekho support if tracking shows no updates for several days or if delivery is significantly delayed. Ekho will regenerate your forms and provide a new shipping label at no cost to you.
Will I get copies of my signed documents?
Yes! After completing e-signatures or remote signing, you can download signed copies for your records. For physical signatures, keep photo copies before mailing the originals.
What documents am I actually signing?
Common documents include:
Power of Attorney for Title and Registration (authorizes Ekho to handle DMV transactions)
Application for Certificate of Title (transfers ownership to you)
Vehicle Registration Application (registers vehicle with DMV)
Odometer Disclosure Statement (certifies mileage)
Bill of Sale (proof of purchase)
Rider Age Acknowledgment Form (ATV purchases only — confirms intended rider age and federal safety acknowledgments)
Your specific documents depend on your state requirements and vehicle type.
Why do some documents need notarization?
Some states require notarized signatures to prevent fraud and ensure documents are signed voluntarily. Notaries verify your identity and witness your signature to make documents legally binding.
Can I sign documents for someone else?
No. The vehicle buyer must be the person who signs. If you’re a business, an authorized representative must sign (and may need an authorization letter depending on your state).
What happens after I complete signing?
Ekho receives your signed documents, reviews them for completeness, prepares your complete registration packet, and submits it to your state’s DMV. You’ll receive updates on registration progress and can track status in your Buyer Portal.
How long until my registration is complete?
After signing, Ekho prepares your packet (5-7 business days) and submits it to the DMV. DMV processing typically takes 4–8 weeks, though timing varies by state. If you have purchased a street-legal vehicle, you’ll receive temporary tags while permanent plates are processed.
